El Centro Internacional de Investigación para el Desarrollo de la Educación (CIIDE) es una iniciativa conjunta de la Corporación Universitaria Minuto de Dios Sede Principal y la Facultad de Educación de la Universidad de Missouri-Columbia con el objetivo general de:
Promover una cultura que valore la creación, aplicación, y divulgación de conocimiento que contribuya a la gestión y política pública sobre el Acceso y la Retención con Calidad y Equidad en Educación Superior.

Who are we?
The International Research Center for the Development of Education (CIIDE for its acronym in Spanish) is a collaborative initiative between the Corporacion Universitaria Minuto de Dios-Main Campus and the College of Education of the University of Missouri-Columbia. CIIDE’s main objective is:
To promote a culture that values the creation, application and dissemination of knowledge contributing to leadership and policymaking related to Access and Retention with Quality and Equity in Higher Education.

Cómo Nació el CIIDE
Durante los años 2012-2014, la Dra. Pilar Mendoza, en colaboración con colegas en la Universidad de Massachusetts Amherst y las Universidades de los Andes y del Magdalena en Colombia, realizaron un estudio cualitativo de necesidades y evaluación de activos en la gestión de la educación superior de América Latina. Este proyecto se llevó acabo con una financiación de la Fundación Ford con el apoyo de Luis Fernando Pérez, actual Vice Ministro de Educación Superior en Colombia y quien lideró varios años las iniciativas de educación superior en Perú, Chile y Colombia de la Fundación Ford. Las fuentes de datos utilizados en este estudio, consistieron en entrevistas personales, de una hora de duración aproximadamente, a 48 expertos en educación superior en México, Colombia, Venezuela, Perú, Chile, Argentina y Uruguay, así como un mapeo virtual de organizaciones trabajando por la educación superior y referentes bibliográficos incluyendo políticas de gobierno.
Los resultados de este estudio son el fundamento epistemológico de lo que hoy es el CIIDE. El tema de movilidad social e inclusión en todas las regiones de Colombia fue muy manifiesto en este ejercicio lo cual conllevó a centrar los esfuerzos hacia la población menos favorecida y vulnerable, incluyendo población en las regiones. Es es ese momento, en octubre 2014, la Dra. Mendoza contactó a UNIMINUTO para mirar lo posibilidad de participar en el proyecto. En ese momento, UNIMINUTO fue elegido como aliado estratégico en este proyecto dada su reconocida labor enfocada hacia la población menos favorecida por medio de carreras en todos los niveles de educación superior con una fuerte vinculación con el sector productivo y en todo el país. El proceso de creación del CIIDE constituyó todo un proceso de internacionalización en sí. En ese proceso de internacionalización se hizo evidente que la Universidad de Missouri y EE.UU tenía mucho que aprender de UNIMINUTO y Colombia, y por eso hoy en día el CIIDE es un centro de investigación comparativo para el beneficio de la educación en las dos naciones.
How CIIDE was Born
During the years 2012-2014, Dr. Pilar Mendoza, in collaboration with colleagues at the University of Massachusetts Amherst and the Universities of the Andes and Magdalena in Colombia, conducted a qualitative study of needs and evaluation of assets in the management of the Higher education in Latin America. This project was carried out with funding from the Ford Foundation with the support of Luis Fernando Pérez, current Vice Minister of Higher Education in Colombia and who led several years of higher education initiatives in Peru, Chile and Colombia of the Ford Foundation. The data sources used in this study consisted of approximately one-hour personal interviews with 48 experts in higher education in Mexico, Colombia, Venezuela, Peru, Chile, Argentina and Uruguay, as well as a virtual mapping of organizations working for higher education and bibliographic references including government policies.
The results of this study are the epistemological foundation of what is now the CIIDE. The issue of social mobility and inclusion in all regions of Colombia was very evident in this exercise, which led to focusing efforts on the less favored and vulnerable population, including population in the regions. It is this time, in October 2014, Dr. Mendoza contacted UNIMINUTO to see the possibility of participating in the project. At that time, UNIMINUTO was chosen as a strategic ally in this project given its recognized work focused on the least favored population through careers at all levels of higher education with a strong relationship with the productive sector and throughout the country. The creation process of CIIDE was a process of internationalization itself. In that process of internationalization, it became clear that the University of Missouri and the US had much to learn from UNIMINUTO and Colombia, and that is why today CIIDE is a comparative research center for the benefit of education in both nations.
